In October 2001, the University of Oklahoma's Division of Regional and City Planning inaugurated the Joseph Lee Rodgers, Jr. Lectureship in Comprehensive Planning honoring  Professor Rodgers' contributions to planning education and practice. 

Professor Rodgers has been elected to Fellow in AICP, one of the highest honors from the Institute. 

In 1977, Professor Rodgers was made David Ross Boyd Professor of Regional and City Planning in recognition of his outstanding contributions to planning education at the University of Oklahoma.
