Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Regional and City Planning (RCPL) is to advance the art and practice of planning through educating students for lifelong professional practice and through expanding the knowledge on which practice is based.  

Critical features that distinguish and shape RCPL's approach to planning education, research, and service to Oklahoma and society include the program's

• Singular focus on the professional masters degree.

• Well-established reputation, dating to its founding in 1947.

• Alumni, many of whom have achieved national prominence.

• Small size, which allows close working relationships among students and faculty.

• Curricular flexibility, which accommodates individual student and faculty interests.

• Multi-disciplinary perspective, fostered by its location within the College of Architecture and by its connections to the social sciences and engineering.

• Commitment to applying planning theory, principles, and practice to address urban and

• regional issues in Oklahoma and environs.
